Lawn Party a success! |
Cortland, NY – The thud of a masterfully played concert bass marked an evening of musical stylings complete at the WDRX-LP 100.7fm's Lawn Party Concert on Sunday. It only seemed right a bluegrass gospel band, along with others, be featured at the Cortland County Fairgrounds. of speakers was among the largest cost for the concert, but with more events like the Lawn Party slated in the next year, the thought is that the speakers will eventually pay for themselves. As the music started everything seemed to fall into place, crew members sighed slightly and guests began the journey of the Lawn Party. The concert featured Crystal and Natasha Poholka with operetic range and amazing harmony. Dennis Shortslef with laid back guitar and vocals. Local favorites, The Gospel Way, a four piece bluegrass band, which left the audience with some new takes on gospel. And Jeff Hunt whose powerful voice was just one part of the singer's remarkable story. CCR also invited local vendors and sponsors out to the event including Spirit & Life, So Yummy Foods, TLC- Triangle Lifestyle Center and featured guest Hoops of Hope. Locally, Hoops of Hope is run by a fourteen-year-old named Jessica who heard about the foundation while attending a revival series in the spring of 2009. Hoops of Hope was started by a nine-year-old boy, Austin, back in 2004 when he was shown a video that literally changed his life and the life of many others. Austin started a basketball shoot-a-thon raising over a million dollars to date for children whose parent's have died or are ailing from AIDS Jessica was so impressed by Austin's testimony that she immediately began organizing her first event, back in June, raising $1500. When CCR learned of Jessica's drive for the cause they decided to feature her and Hoops of Hope at the concert. Recreating the evening, perhaps the only request might have been the clear skies found at the end of the concert being present throughout the day. Fortunately for CCR it did not rain on the fairgrounds. And while the mix of musical styles were as unconventional as the vege burgers being served, the evening was well received – many asking for more events - from the radio station in the 'little red school house on Fisher Ave.' More they shall receive. Next for CCR is a new line up of local programming, which they are still in the process of nailing down. They invite any and all that might be interested in developing a radio program with the station to contact Bryan Lee at 607.229.0808 or Bryan@wdrx.org. This was the first like event for 100.7fm Cortland Christian Radio and there was anxious anticipation as it approached. For CCR, the Lawn Party was a whole new monster. While they broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week they do not broadcast live or in person. The purchase of a new set |
